Brooklyn-based artist Faith Harding makes buoyant, off-kilter dance-pop with a certain flair, thanks to years of training as a jazz vocalist and pianist. Inertia, her self-released second full-length as Novelty Daughter, takes a "decisive turn towards the electronic," says NPR, while orbiting themes of the self, heartbreak, and intimacy. Harding notes inspirations ranging from Mitski to Bjork. She brings the latter to mind with the album's textural and kinetic energy ("beguiling percussion, soft chiming bells, shimmering synths") and the former in its vulnerability, honesty, and resolve. The vibe as a whole—emotive, cosmic, refreshing—is all her own.
